This means we must review our past experience in our business, correct our mistakes if any, learn from them and prepare ourselves better for the future. This is also called as experience. Some bitter experiences in the past are the best teachers.

Also, lessons imparted to you (from uplines, managers, books, gurus etc) don't make sense now, but more often than not as you gain experience in this business you will see the wisdom.
