Watch AF MKOM 1633 - Prospecting Intro to Friends & Family VIDEO
Introduction¶
The script below is inform your friends and family of your 2nd career (if you're part-time) or your new primary career (if you're full-time) of being a financial advisor. Adjust it to your circumstance. The main points that you want to get across are:
-
I’m fairly bursting with happiness at the opportunity I’ve been given to really help people with retirement income planning.
-
I can obviously claim no expertise yet, so I’ve surrounded myself with experts.
-
That I’m in a position, through my experts, to offer them a clear idea of where they are in their retirement planning, entirely without cost or obligation to them.
Step 1: Email Script¶
- Note: you can easily adapt this script for face-to-face or via phone.
I hope this email finds you and your family well and thriving. I’m very happy to tell you that I’ve joined an excellent investment firm which specializes in helping people plan for a comfortable retirement.
All during my past career, I’ve watched people work diligently for decades, only to enter a retirement without enough income. I knew it didn’t have to be that way, and wondered if someday I might find a way to help. That’s exactly the opportunity I’ve found.
As I begin this journey, I’m clearly very far away from being any kind of retirement planning expert, yet. That’s exactly why I’ve affiliated with a remarkable team of such experts, and I look forward to learning from them. I’m writing you today specifically to tell you that I can offer — entirely without cost or obligation — an analysis of where a family stands at any given moment in their retirement planning.
We ask: Do you know exactly how much money it’s going to take for you to retire comfortably — and stay that way?
So I would welcome the opportunity to take you through the process of answering that question.
I’ll be in touch with you shortly to reconnect and to see if I can be of useful service to you and yours.
Step 2: Follow-Up to Set Appointment¶
- Reconnent and do the Coffee Script.
Step 3: If It's a 'No' or 'Maybe'¶
Also, how to convert a casual friend to a prospect without burning the relationship?
Ask them if it's okay to put them on your informational email series and your monthly client email newsletter.
"John, I have a monthly newsletter where I discuss retirement and other financial tips. Would it be alright if I include in it? I'll start with a 20-part informational email series, whereby I send 2 or 3 week - then it's done."
If they have no interest in ever doing business with you, they will simply ignore the email and you'll know not to push it further.
