The Wiki's Origin Story

I started in this business in 1989 while still in college and perhaps because I was in a student-mindset, I took copious notes of live meetings, seminars, audios (cassettes!), videos (VHS!), many books, teaching from other advisors, and, of course, my own experiences.

Over the years this collection of lessons evolved into a two-day live training course (I charged $35!), and eventually it migrated online into it's present form: the AdvisorFrist Wiki.

It contains scripts, product knowledge, prospecting, procedures, systems, psychology. insights, lessons, aphorisms and much more. It is updated frequently and is your first-stop for help. It not only contains 35 years of my experience, but the lessons I've learned from training over 100 Advisors.

It is offered at no cost and open to all advisors, including those who are not part of our AdvisorFirst Group.

Many advisors over the years have commented that the Wiki has been the most valuable resource that they've ever used (other than personal coaching).

Wiki Instructions

  • Use the Menu Bar on the left column to navigate this Wiki. The menu is long but at most two levels deep.

  • Notice the nomenclature we use to reference pages. Each section start with a letter. For example, the "Securities" section is indexed as "[S]". The pages (and sub-pages) that are part of that section are numbered. So, AFW S.2.3 = AdvisorFirst Wiki / Securities / 2. Investment Principles / 3. The Magic of Compound Interest.

  • If a section doesn't have "[letter]" or a sub-page isn't numbered then it is most iikely an external link to a non-Wiki page.

  • When you're on a page there will be a table-of-contents to the right that is clickable.

  • Each page shows the "breadcrumbs" of the page location and which others pages it is "nested" under (if any). The breadcrumbs take you up a level if you click them.

  • If you find errors please let me know.

Who We Are

afg-logo.png The AdvisorFirst Group is an informal network of Advisors and Branches within our firm. We are a State-of-the-Art, Innovative, Independent, Cutting-Edge, Modern training organization that is built upon an Open-Architecture Platform.

What We Believe

Read Robert Greene's TDL 11-24 - Seek the Upward Pull of the Group PDF

We believe a competent Advisor is a confident Advisor, and a confident Advisor is a productive Advisor.

We believe in "open-source" ideas. Our intention is to share and give everything we have in that it may be useful to others. We freely distribute resources and encourage others to modify and improve upon them. In fact, most of what we have we have procured from others. This is the wonderful "cross-pollination" philosophy of our Group. However, we do ask two things in reciprocity:

  • Please give credit where credit is due. A little fame makes one feel good.
  • Share with us anything that works for you and your team.

We are all working together to achieve our entrepreneurial goals - so we call upon you to help, share, teach, listen, distribute, and hold nothing back! It really comes back to you in the end.

However, we are not in the babysitting business. We serve the top performers and those who are totally committed to claw their way up to become top performers. Which is why our training is geared toward helping you reaching world class performance - not motivational drivel to lure the lazy off the couch.

There comes a moment in one's career where it suddenly dawns upon you that those basics, those boring fundamentals, are truly the keys to success. In any progressive endeavor, it is easy to fall in love with the new shiny penny or the new girl in the cafeteria or this thing that demands CAPITAL letters to describe its awesomeness. I've been there, I've done that…many times. And, sadly, I circle around back to literally what I learned in kindergarten of strength education: It’s the fundamentals. It’s the basics .

Certainly, we progress. Certainly, we add on, tack on, add some paint, toss in some glitter and make it prettier sometimes. But, never forget the fundamentals; never lose sight of the basic truths .

Show Up” is and always will be the foundational success principle and “Thank you” will never be surpassed as the right thing to say in so many of life’s situations.

You will find that as a team we use the latest technology and at times that may feel overwhelming to you. We are willing to mentor you through this process and make sure you can take full advantage of our resources.
